Health-Motivation

“Health is wealth”, without proper health and exercise once body will not function properly. In order to succeed in sports career a candidate must have high goals that translate his physical strength and psychological strengths into a better practice-training that results in great achievements. A coach/mentor motivates a candidate to achieve or excel in different sports categories. He motivates, develops and evaluates the candidate. But the attitude of person differs from person to person both for the candidate as well as the capacity of coach. Age, gender, environment, economic, family background, culture, scientific methods etc., influence the sportsman’s practice sessions and ambitions to succeed. Trainings will be of short term duration or long term duration and motivational factors will be differing in each case. Psychological aspects play vital role in relaxation and activation.  Goals are precondition to any activity, exercises or practice should be done in scientific manner by getting internal and external motivation appropriately.

The study of physiology of exercise in a modern sense began in Paris, France, When Antoine Lavoisier in 1777 and Lavoisier & Pierre de Laplace in 1780 developed techniques to measure the oxygen uptake and carbon dioxide production at rest and during the exercise. Definition of Exercise: “Physical activity that is planned, structured, repetitive and purposive in the sense that improvement or maintenance of one or more components of physical body”. In the past exercise and physical activity are used synonymously but now they treat exercise as subcategory of physical activity.  Physical activity is defined as bodily movement produced by the contraction of skeletal muscle that increases energy expenditure above the basal level. The physical activity of a person or group is frequently categorized by the context in which it occurs. Common categories include occupational, household, leisure, time or transportation. Activity can be further subdivided into categories such as competitive sports, recreational activities (Ex: Hiking, Cycling) and exercise training.

Needs ---> Interpretation of goals ---> Goal Oriented Behaviour ---> Accomplishment of goals

Motivation:  Origin from the Latin word “Movere” which means “To Move”. A Coach motivates the sportsman for exercise to suit the needs. Motivation, therefore, concerns those dynamic processes which procedure a goal oriented behavior. “Necessity is mother of all inventions”, so what controls human behavior and gives direction to it is neither the goal nor the incentive but the need.
